We must admit when first looking at the photos of this thing it channeled our inner child. The enclosed feet, closable hands, and color actually reminds us of Gumby. First things first don’t ever compare the Selk’Bag to a Snuggie. Designed in Chile by Rodrigo Alonso in affiliation with MusucHouse, this sleep wear system is the furthest possible product from a Snuggie. It’s rated to keep you warm down to 36°F/2°C (ice forms at 32°F/0°C). Read on to see what we thought of the Selk’Bag 3G.
Package:
Our initial impression when opening the Selk’Bag 3G was an instant feeling of quality. The carrying bag is a clutch piece to the package. Built from 300T/40D Rip-stop nylon and tailored to the perfect dimensions. Included on the carrying bag is a buckled top to keep the Selk’Bag in place, a handle on the bottom to allow for easy removal, and a draw string that is concealed by the buckled top. The whole package measures about 14″ tall and 9″ in diameter.

Pulling out the Selk’Bag from its carrying case wasn’t too bad with a little bit of muscle and use of the handle on the bottom. It was unrolled on the carpet in no time.
Features:

Here are a quick run down of the features built into every Selk’Bag 3G.
A. Draw string on the hood to clamp down on your face.
B. Half zipper (velcro locked) that provides access to the inner chest pocket.
C. Full zipper (velcro locked) for entering and exiting the sleep-wear system.
D. Zippers located at each hand (also located on the inside for easy unzipping.
E. Zippered leg vents if it gets too hot.
F. Ruggedized foot pads to keep you mobile.
G. Inner pocket with fold over lip. Perfect to slide your phone into.
Usage:
The second you climb into the Selk’Bag you get an instant feeling of comfort. You can just lie down anywhere and feel right at home. The design really does provide a sense of freedom and mobility all while being isolated in your own personal zone. We can’t wait to take this bad boy camping when spring rolls around. The leg vents do a much better job than we initially thought. They keep you nice and cool when the bag starts to heat up.
Advancements:
We didn’t get a chance to compare the differences between the Selk’Bag 2G against the 3G, but selkbagusa.com provides the deets…
features important advancements over Selk’bag 2G, including: baffled construction to eliminate cold spots; improved insulation for greater thermal efficiency; a very soft yet durable Ripstop nylon shell with DWR finish; lateral foot grips for better traction on many surfaces; interior mp3 player pocket; insulated thermal collars around the head and neck; exaggerated and insulated draft tubes; wider zipper tape to eliminate snags; higher grade zippers; leg vents to moderate interior temperature; and a right hip zipper to access your pocket or fly.
Final Thoughts:
The Selk’Bag 3G is one of those ideas that seems obvious once you lay eyes on it, it’s certainly an original product that would make a great addition to your camping gear or if your just want to lounge around your house. We did have a rather small issue with zipper snag, just something to note but certainly not a deal breaker. As long as you are careful when zipping you’ll be fine. If you’re an outdoorsy person or you just like to lounge around then definitely check out the Selk’Bag 3G. There are three different models to choose from: Adult 3G ($149), Kids 3G ($99), and the 3G Down ($299).
