Aprilia RS 50 Mini Streetbike

Aprilia_RS50_20100105-1

Streetbikes have always found a way to tug at our heart strings. Though the RS 50 ($3K) by Aprilia is mini, we’re still in love. The RS 50 is built around a 50cc 8.4hp engine that only weighs 33 pounds, and can do 70mph. The design draws inspiration from Aprilia’s flagship RSV 1000R and makes no apologies. For a mini bike you’d expect to see some skimping when it comes to features, but not with an Aprilia. The RS 50 includes an aluminum frame, aluminum swingarm, 6-speed gearbox, light weight wheels with ‘Y’ spokes, front and rear disk brakes, electric start, and analog/digital instrumentation. The only downside is that they are difficult to find in the US. Check out Aprilia’s site for dealer information, and maybe you can find one in your area. Hit the jump for a full body photo.

Derringer Cycles – Vintage Style Scooters

derringer-cycles

This is not your regular moped. What we have here is a vintage moped with a twist. This would be Derringer Cycles neo-classical interpretation of a 1920’s era board track racing motorcycle. What you’ll notice is that there is a definite resemblance with these frames and your classic beach cruiser bikes. Essentially, The Derringer Cycle is a cruiser that’s gas powered by a 4-stroke 49cc engine which is capable of exceeding 150 miles per gallon. Or, if you just want to go on a normal bike ride, you have yourself pedals as well, you choose. You’ll notice people rubber necking with this moto-hybrid scooter for sure.

Brammo Enertia Electric Motorcycle

brammo_enertia

Finally your dreams of driving a power wheels on the street can come true. Enter the Brammo Enertia($8K). The Enertia is the first commercially available street legal 100% electric motorcycle. The design of this bike pulls from its motorcylce heritage but adds in the perfect balance of “modern electro”. With no clutch or gears it’s just a simple flick of the wrist and you’re off. The great thing about electric transport is that even at 0 RPM the motor produces 100% of it’s power. That means that once you flick your wrist you’re in for a rush. Because the motor is a completely sealed brushless design, maintenance is extremely diminished. Weighing in at 324lbs this ride can zoom you up to a top speed of 60+ mph and take you about 42 miles. When you’re out of juice simply plug it in to your standard wall outlet. If you live in the U.S. the government will front you a 10% tax break, bringing the price down to $7,200.

Honda_Ruckus_20091106

When it comes to lightweight transport Honda has produced a winner. This 49cc micro beast will get you from point A to point B (provided there aren’t any freeways) without fail. The rugged minimalist frame means it’s light and there’s a lot less area for you to scratch up. The compact design allows it to go almost anywhere with a wheelbase of only 49.8 inches and a curb weight of 194 lbs with a full tank of gas. The automatic belt drive transmission means anyone can hop on and take it for a spin. The Ruckus also obviously gets the incredible gas mileage of 116 MPG. If you’re looking for cheap transport and don’t want to look like a dork check out the Ruckus.
